EMDR an introduction: A workshop with Dr Liz Royle and Cath Kerr on 27th February 2015
09:30 – 16:00
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an empirically validated psychotherapy for treating anxiety-based disorders caused by traumatic events, whether these are of a major or minor nature. In this introductory workshop the theoretical background, development and core features of EMDR therapy will be presented. Case material will be used extensively to bring the theory and practice to life. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about EMDR and its relevance to their clinical practice.
Participants should be aware that this introductory session does not constitute training in the use of EMDR, but will be of particular interest to clinicians in referring clients for EMDR or completing the training themselves.
The session will cover:
- The Adaptive Information Processing model
- An overview of the eight phase protocol
- A discussion of how varying theoretical stances may be integrated into EMDR psychotherapy
- The clients and conditions most suitable for EMDR
Liz Royle and Cath Kerr are EMDR Europe Approved Consultants and authors of the book “Integrating EMDR into your Practice.”
They both work within the continuum of trauma presentations, from using EMDR with very recent traumatic events to working with PTSD, complex trauma and dissociation.
They have published and presented internationally on the subject of EMDR including its applicability to vicarious trauma, stigma and chronic fatigue syndrome. They regularly run workshops for practitioners who are newly trained and less confident in integrating their existing skills into an EMDR psychotherapeutic approach.
